Spanish soccer legend Xabi Alonso has returned to his birthplace of Guadalajara as one of the guest speakers at the Guadalajara GFX1 Fine Arts Festival.

The Guadalajara GFX1 Fine Arts Festival celebrates talent from all disciplines and across various ages.

The well-known Spanish footballer returned to his native city after 10 years away from the city and will be speaking in two days’ time at the festival’s opening ceremony on Sunday.

“This weekend I am delighted and honoured to speak at the opening ceremony of the Guadalajara GFX1 Fine Arts Festival,” said Alonso.

“The city of Guadalajara is my hometown. I spent most of my childhood there, I have plenty of friends, and I love seeing all of the people from my childhood in the streets and squares.”

He added: “I have had the opportunity to live in almost every part of the world, but there is still a place in my heart for my hometown, that will never stop being the place that gave me so much.”

Guadalajara has been in the international spotlight this week following the winners’ list for La Liga 2018-19.

Real Madrid’s success is perhaps most significant, and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said: “In terms of dominance, some people may not agree with me but I have always admired that streak of three consecutive Champions League victories.”
