Verstappen says he will be just like his father

( dpa ) – Max Verstappen has insisted he is not the new Michael Schumacher.

The 21-year-old Dutchman’s father Jos made much of the comparison between his son’s achievements and the success of the seven-time world champion, but Max said he’s no Schumacher.

“I’m not Michael,” Verstappen said in his first interview since winning the F1 Rookie of the Year award. “It doesn’t mean I can’t be successful.”

And he’s confident that he can emulate the accomplishments of his father, who finished fifth in the drivers’ world championship in 1992.

“I have a very realistic objective,” Verstappen said. “I’m very proud of what my father has achieved. For the moment, I can only do my best, and I’m very hopeful that the position I’ve reached will last, although it can change in the future.”

Though his team Red Bull Racing haven’t announced the number of races Verstappen will race in this season, “We will put him into every race as soon as we know the competition line-up,” team chief Christian Horner said.
